I’ve had several maternity sessions here lately and the big question is always, “what should I wear?”.  It can be difficult because you want something that is stylish and chic, yet comfortable, as well as finding something that accentuates your tummy.  And with the limited places to shop for maternity clothes, that can be no small feat to find the pieces to that puzzle!   This What to Wear guide is good for a mom-to-be alone, all the way up to a family maternity session.  Check it:

I always suggest bringing several items of clothing, and something like the above outfit, plus a plain black tank (can be worn with same jeans for look #2), works fab — it’s as simple as that!

Maternity Photographer Tyler Texas

I absolutely love getting to know my couples who come in for maternity sessions.  Since there aren’t any kiddos there (yet!) as a distraction, sessions tend to be a little more laid back, slower in pace, and it gives me a chance to try new ideas or play around with lighting.  *E* and *R* came from Nacogdoches for their session and they were totally game to go along with my ideas, and we ended up with some beautiful imagery…

We started out by having some fun in the studio — it can take some couples a while to get comfortable, but these two were so relaxed:

Then, we decided to do some shooting downtown, we had amazing light…

And I’m happy to be meeting their little one *a*, this week for her newborn session — I can’t wait!  You can bet I’ll be blogging that session as well

Tyler Texas Maternity Photographer

It was a chilly Saturday morning when I traveled just outside of Tyler to photograph this sweet couple who is awaiting the arrival of their first baby.  It was such a great creative outlet for me – their home and property are beautiful and it was fun to shoot at a new place, away from my usual haunts.    Have a peek at some of my favorites from the session:

I love how these two (who are high school sweethearts) looks so comfortable together.  They look completely content on this swing, which is located on the cutest front porch ever!

And I always love to get a shot like this one, I think it puts it all in perspective (from here on out, it’s all about the baby!) 

Then, we decided to get a few shots of mommy-to-be, *j*, alone.  I love the simple white gown, I think it makes these images so timeless…

Tyler Texas Maternity Photography

Loved this sweet (and adorable!) couple who came to the studio for a maternity session from Henderson.  I think they were both a little nervous when they arrived, but I just kept talking and eventually, I had them relaxed and laughing.  Hopefully, they were laughing with me, and not *at* me, ha! 

We started out in the studio and of course, it’s all about the tummy:

Next, we ended up shooting outside, near the studio.  It was right before a little storm came through, so we had yummy, soft light:

I “met” *K* about 5 years ago, via an iVillage message board when I was pregnant with Cullen and she was pregnant with her oldest little boy *R*.  The message board was for babies who were due in June 2005 and was basically a place to ask questions, commiserate, and get to know other Moms.  Once the June babies were born, you then became a “play group” and a whole new chapter of questions and commiserating began!  Over the last five years, I have fallen off of the message board (due to lack of time), but *K* and I have kept in contact.  She lives a couple of hours away in the Dallas/Fort Worth area but thanks to social networking sites, we have been able to keep up with one another.  We have both had our second little boys and now, *K* is expecting her third.  This time, a little girl.    I was so happy when she emailed and asked about the family making the trek to Tyler for a session.  I loved being able to document the final weeks (she is due any day now!) in this new chapter of their lives…

Here’s *K*, in one of my favorite shots from the day…  I think she looks bee-u-tee-ful.  Honestly, I have never seen such a tiny, perfectly round tummy.  It’s like she has a little volleyball tucked away in there instead of a baby girl!

And finally, we captured a few shots of Mom and her boys.  I had intended to capture more serious shots of the three of them together, but honestly, the boys were funny.  The more I laughed at them, the harder they and *K* would laugh and I ended up loving how “real” these are (if you are a Mom of boys, you can relate!).  Plus, I think *K*’s smile is amazing in these images, she truly looks in her element:

Lucky me, one of my favorites, a maternity session!  This time, with an adorable couple from Longview who is expecting a little girl (baby *b*).  Even though it was threatening rain at any given moment, we decided to leave the studio and try a little shooting in nearby downtown.  And I have to say, I was so happy that we did!  I loved what we ended up with, and I hope you do too…

I know Mom-to-be “B” has been waiting for me to blog a sneak peek from their maternity session… I bet she had almost given up on me!  But, here it is and I have to say, I think it was worth the wait!  I had such a hard time narrowing down favorites, so be ready for a long blog post!

Backtracking a little bit, when I emailed “B” to confirm our session, she emailed me back and said her husband (also “B”) wanted to know if it was okay to bring their dog along for the session.  Um, hello.  I’m all over that.  If you know me at all, you *know* I am a dog person (three large dogs live in our home).  Plus, I am always looking for cool “props” — and what better prop than an adorable Doberman Pinscher named Ruby.  We started out doing some downtown shots, Mom has such a cute tummy and look at Ruby working the camera:

We decided to give Ruby a break and did a little bit more shooting downtown.  I found a few new spots, in my quest for shade to shoot in.  I love the wall behind them and look at what a cute tummy “B” has:

Next, back to the studio.  I love the pureness of the next image.  It’s clean and soft, plus I think “B” looks so lovely:

Had a great session at the studio a few days ago and I’ve been just dying to blog some of the images (you’ll see why soon!).

*B* came in for a maternity session, and if you notice the subject line, the subject line says, “last minute”… why last minute?  That would be because *B* has a due date that is just a couple of days from today (and yes, she was just at the studio on Wednesday!).  Her super sweet Mom booked the session for her last week and we were both hoping she wouldn’t go into labor before the session, she was that close!  I think when *B* sees the images, she’ll truly be glad she decided to do the session.

Pregnancy has it’s challenges, and from experience, I know it can be exhausting (!).  But, it’s such a special time between Mom and baby, a time you will look back on with a heart full of emotion.  And though it doesn’t seem like it, in the big scheme of things, it goes by so quickly.  That is the absolute fact of why I am a huge fan of maternity sessions… it’s about capturing the moment before it is gone.
