I really like this particular grouping for it’s classic, soft and vintage feel.  Something like this would be perfect for a session in the home/backyard, a field, a garden, or park.  The soft colors would even work well in the light and bright studio.  Have a look:

Again, use this to build or expand!  Mom, if you are more comfortable in a long skirt, work with that.  If this look isn’t Dad’s norm, use the color scheme for his style… maybe a loose button up instead of a sweater.  You get the idea

WHAT DO WE WEAR?!?

This is actually a question I get asked a lot, and even after I give suggestions of colors, how to coordinate without being “matchy-matchy” , and tips on where to shop, I still hear doubt in my clients voices when they hang up the phone.   So, I thought I would start including some visual inspiration on the blog to make things easier.

This particular ‘What to Wear Guide’ is great for just about any kind of session that is on location.  At your home, a park, a field, even an urban/downtown shoot:

And this is just a start, you can totally build on this to make it more  “you”.  Mom can add a denim jacket over the top of the dress, Dad can wear a fedora hat, you can add a funky headband for the little girl, you get the idea.  The key is to have fun and feel confident in what you are wearing.

I hear this a lot.  In fact, I went through it myself.  When looking at images of my boys from a session, I would ask myself, “what am I to do with all these pictures?”, “where can I put them?”, etc, etc, etc.

Sound familiar?

Then, I had an epiphany.  I looked around my house, full of random “wall art”, none of it which I had an emotional connection to.  Basically, it was just stuff I bought to fill up empty wall space.  A picture of fruit here, a Parisian street there.  And I thought, what is *art*?  More importantly, what is *my* art?

Art by definition is the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance.  <Yes, yes, I know that sounds really over the top and technical, but just stay with me – I do have a point!>

Well… my children, my family, even my dogs, the people/beings I adore, are what I think of as beautiful, certainly appealing and obviously more than ordinarily significant!

So, my family became my art.  Truth be told, they were already my art and I just didn’t know it.  Sometimes I’m a little slow to the punch like that.

And where is all of this “artsy” talk taking us?  What is the point, so you say?  Well, the point is my “Inspire Guide”, full of ideas of how to hang your precious masterpieces, in a most sublime manner.  And better yet, I’ve done all the work for you.  I’ve captured your art, now I’m giving you ideas on how to display it.  An example is shown below.  This is just one of many collections that can be done, some basic in approach, some more creative.  In fact, after your session I am happy to provide a book chock full of inspirational ideas.  You can take it home, walk around your house with it, stare at your walls and the various possibilities… you get the point.

So, now the only question is… what are you waiting for???
